ChatGPT Won’t Kill Your SEO

Google recently published an article in Google Search Central on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, stating that they will not demote AI-generated content. According to the article (link here: https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2023/02/google-search-and-ai-content), Google will be rewarding content that demonstrates qualities of expertise, experience, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness, also known as E-E-A-T.

The focus will be on the quality of the content, regardless of how it was produced. Google acknowledges that automation has been used in the past to generate useful content, which is why AI-generated content will not be banned. In fact, Google recognizes that AI can assist with and generate useful content in new and exciting ways.

However, this doesn't mean that you should start churning out content with ChatGPT just to improve your ranking on Google. According to the article, if you see AI as an essential tool to help you produce helpful and original content, it might be worth considering. But if you see AI as a way to manipulate search engine rankings easily and cheaply, then the answer is no.

Google has implemented various systems, including SpamBrain, to detect spam and ranking manipulation, regardless of how the content was produced. Their goal is to take a middle approach, allowing the use of AI while preventing its misuse for manipulating search results.
